The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate scary movies: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit has now made its online premiere via Hulu. At first glance, it could look like typical biological terror, but beneath Together exists a profound meditation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors infuse a particular energy to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The plot begins when Tim and Millie move from the big city to the rural area for her career. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their new home, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence starts to affect the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying of scares, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, gross (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes during something horrific). Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and delivers them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and far away from his support system. He fears the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that are inherent in long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these fears of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism avoids being overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a strong argument for remaining unattached. On the other hand, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could function as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your partner and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu now.
